About Us

Our love of old, quirky and beautiful items inspired Jane and I to set up So Very British.

We are both fascinated by history, design, and skilled craftsmanship, and are delighted to be able to offer our clients an insight into this bygone world.

By education I am an historian, but have always been involved in various business ventures and adventures, including More Than Good Manners (www.morethangoodmanners.com), which along with So Very British shows an insight into Britain’s past, an era of quintessential British life that can be found in the escapism through realms of fantasy of Downton Abbey.

My interests range from the equestrian, especially the Side Saddle world, to ballet (dancing en pointe for the first time at 53), and of course a growing interest in all that “glitters” (if you come from Suffolk then the word is pronounced with silent Ts), aka gemmology.

I have ridden side saddle since childhood and won’t settle for second best when it comes to equestrian clothing and tack. The first female to ride on the flat as a professional jockey, a collector of vintage watches, in particular Longines. I also enjoy needlework and make some of the goods, or will create bespoke items to complement your So Very British home, horsebox or summerhouse.

Not forgetting the So Very British dogs, they can have made-to-measure collars, coats or custom beds to fit in with your style.
